Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is an all-natural and non-toxic minimally invasive procedure that reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves facial elasticity, and tightens and brightens the complexion. Cosmetic acupuncture treatments address specific facial concerns, while nourishing the body from the inside out and correcting internal imbalances to restore vitality. The goal of cosmetic acupuncture is to tone the skin of the face and neck to attain a more youthful appearance.

How It Works

Cosmetic acupuncture has several mechanisms as to how it affects the body and draws results. First, the insertion of acupuncture needles stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems, which both work together to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, nourishing the skin from the inside out. Cosmetic acupuncture also works by increasing blood flow and stimulating the facial muscles to improve their tone and conditioning.

Another mechanism that explains how this is attained is that once needles are inserted, a microtrauma is created, which stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin within the body. The increase in collagen production improves the skin’s elasticity, which helps smooth out fine wrinkles and lines.

In addition to the local facial needling, body acupuncture points are included in the session to nourish the entire body and treat the "root" cause of facial and aesthetic concerns.

The Benefits

The most common result reported from facial acupuncture is a brighter, plumper, more “lifted” complexion. Other patient-reported benefits include reduced fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone, tighter and toned facial muscles, as well as looking up to ten years younger and feeling more confident in their own skin.

Cosmetic acupuncture is 100% natural, doesn’t involve any toxic chemicals, is minimally invasive, and generally painless. Many patients also report improved sleep quality, reduced cortisol levels, and improved energy in addition to the physical cosmetic benefits.

How It Compares to Botox or Fillers

Results are not as dramatic or immediate as botox or dermal fillers, but last up to ten times longer with proper maintenance. Cosmetic acupuncture is not an instant fix or one-time treatment, as many skilled practitioners recommend twelve to eighteen weekly sessions to achieve the desired results, before moving to the maintenance stage.

The Treatment

Each appointment begins with a general health assessment and discussion of specific skincare concerns and goals. The treatment begins with micro-current therapy on the face and neck, followed by gua sha with our signature botanical facial oil on the face, neck and chest. Next, body acupuncture points and facial points specific to patient goals will be inserted, and patient will rest under a Celluma LED light specific to their desired outcome. After 30-35 minutes the needles are removed and future treatment plans are discussed. Lifestyle recommendations and home care and maintenance will also be presented at this time.
